Gaining an education past high school is extremely important for your future. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labour Statistics, those with a bachelor’s degree make over $350 more per week than someone with a high school diploma and nothing more. This can add up to nearly $20,000 per year.
However, with the rising cost of education it seems nearly impossible to go to school and work at the same time. This is the exact reason online universities were created. Well, for one, it can be a lot cheaper. You are not paying the costly room and board fees that standard colleges charge. You are also saving on fuel driving back and forth from campus each and every day.
For two, online universities allow you to learn at your own pace. You can continue to work during the days and study at night. Or, you can study during the days and work at night. It’s entirely up to you. Whenever you feel like studying or attending a class, you simply log on and the work and lesson is there for you.
Apart from flexibility, online universities can also offer you a more intimate experience. In many college courses you are shoved into an auditorium with 300 or more students. You’re lucky if the teacher even knows your name by the end of the course.

Of course, online universities do come with a couple of disadvantages. The first one is the whole ‘college’ experience. For many, college is also about socializing and getting into trouble with your new friends. Beer nights, frat houses and all-night study sessions are all part of the college experience. With online university, you are missing out on this aspect of school.
Furthermore, you need to be motivated to succeed in online university. Because of the freedom and flexibility, it’s up to do to ensure the work gets done and that you are actually benefiting from the course. It can be very tempting to just ditch the course work until the last day.
However, for those busy with work who still want to expand their education, online university provides a credible, individual and flexible alternative to the traditional college experience.
