Experience the World with International Internship

Working overseas can be an enriching and exciting way to strengthen your understanding of the world. In fact, more and more college graduates and students are looking into international internships as a way to incorporate work experience with international travel.  And why not? You gain credible work experience and you get to see the world at the same time.

International internships are the perfect way to see the world, learn new languages and gain experience in your career of choice. It is also the first step to gaining an international career. You can find international internships in almost any industry. Most are issued for one summer to one year depending on the company and the organization.

However, before you pack your bags it’s a good idea to understand the different types of internships and what you can expect from an international internship.

Before you Go Abroad

Do the research before jumping on a plane. Most countries require certain working visas in order to work overseas. You will also need a passport, money to support yourself, a place to stay and certain vaccinations in some countries.

There are certain organizations that specify in finding international internships. They are familiar with the application and visa process and thus can be very helpful in your search for overseas work.

The Types of International Internships

Study Abroad Internships are programs that offer internships as part of their course. Instead of payment, students receive academic credit and a chance to work in another part of the world. A Study Abroad Intern will meet with an intern coordinator to discuss the work and any problems along the way. Study Aboard internships are best for those careers where the competition is stiff such as journalism and marketing. Having overseas work experience looks great on a resume and may be the deciding factor in a job opening.

Another option for international internship is going through an internship placement organization which will match college graduates with overseas work. Some of these internships are paid while others are not.  These are great for those with recent degrees in engineering, business, or the sciences. For a fee, internship placement organizations will also help you sort out your visa and application process to ensure you are able to work once overseas.

A final option for prospective international interns is to find the work by yourself. Applying to different overseas companies that offer internships may seem like a daunting task but if you’re ambitious and motivated, this can lead to a successful international career path. You will be placed on a student-working visa, or temporary visa which will allow you to get either paid or unpaid work. The visa duration varies from country to country. For example, Australia offers a 4-month visa, Canada offers a 5-month visa and New Zealand offers a 12-month visa for Americans.

International internships are the perfect way to open your mind, to experience another country and culture and to increase your job prospects for the future.
